I was surprised when I read that my order would be delivered to me under an hour. This was a first, maybe I have been ordering food from afar. And much to my surprise the delivery boy beat the deadline & marched off promptly knowing I had paid online. I had to call him back for his tip. I wish there was a way to include the tip when I order online - not always do I have change handy - and I also want to appreciate the hard work & effort you take to deliver my order right. Mayur is best known for its thaali - but one of their better kept secrets are their competitively priced desserts. So rather than hop down to the nearest halwai, I had freshly made Indian desserts delivered to me. Each portion tightly packed in its own container - no spill & easy to serve/store. As always the spongy rasmalai/anguri rabdi, topped the chart for me. Cool ras and slivered dry fruits, perfectly sweetened: I could keep eating this all day and still want more! The kala jam, is another culinary masterpiece few halwais get right. Mayur houses one such halwai. Perfect shimmering golden brown in the center and full rich dark glossy exterior. A biteful and you are done for dessert! The sugar syrup is ALWAYS the right consistency. They have something to be proud of. Though I must admit I don't care much for the ground pistachio center! Rajbhog - an indulgent take off on the rasgulla. Perfect chenna, sponginess; loved the kesar-dryfruit stuffed centre treasure. I am a huger fan of the rasmalai or else the rajbhogs would have been wiped out in a hurry. Excellent treat. The fruit salad is a homely runny custard with an assortment of diced fruits. Light, refreshing - and one of their "healthier" deserts - topped with pomegrante seeds. I can't wait for the "mango season", when they serve fresh aamras. My weakness: aamras-puri! And Mayur sells both. To dodge the guilt, I did order some savory items - Kadhi & chappati. Their kadhi is delicate and perfectly balanced. I love the sweetness which just about veils the sourness of the yoghurt. An all time fave and great with even plain boiled rice! Their phulkas I like on standby - sometimes smearing them even with hummus & stuffing them with veggies/kebabs. These chappatis don't seem to dry out even days after in the fridge and I double them up as rolls as well. Great Indian Dessert Buffet for us tonight. Thank you TK & Mayur. hide
